Sleep in Heavenly Peace to Host Bunks Across America Bed Build Event

Perryville, MO – September 13, 2025 – The local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the leading non-profit organization dedicated to building beds for children in need, will host its annual Bunks Across America event on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 9am - 1pm at Perry Plaza Shopping Center Parking Lot in Perryville, MO. The event will bring together volunteers, community partners, and local businesses to build 30 beds for children in Perry, Bollinger, and Cape Girdeau Counties who don't have a proper place to sleep.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapters throughout the United States will participate in the 7th annual Bunks Across America initiative between September 6-13, 2025, the largest coordinated bed-building effort in the country. Our local chapter is proud to be a part of this movement that addresses the national child bedlessness crisis.
Our SHP chapter currently has a waitlist of 34 children that need beds. These children often sleep on couches, in crowded beds with other family members, or even on the floor. Having a safe and comfortable bed of their own is crucial for their physical and mental well-being and development.
"Our volunteers are everyday heroes who prove that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. They come from all walks of life – teachers, retirees, families, students, business owners – but they share one thing in common: they refuse to accept that any child in our community should sleep on the floor,” said Denise Waller, Chapter President. “We are building more than beds. We're building a community that truly cares for its most vulnerable members - the children."

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is committed to ensuring that NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!® Through events like Bunks Across America, we are working to provide a good night's sleep for every child in our community.
Following the Bunks Across America event, SHP volunteer delivery teams will coordinate with local families who’ve applied for a bed(s) for their child(ren). Once a date is scheduled, the teams will deliver, assemble and install these new, handcrafted twin beds and bunks, complete with all new mattresses, bedding and pillows, in the homes of local families.
Family members and case workers can apply for beds for children, ages 3-17, at shpbeds.org/apply.
